Position: 2026/2027 - Associate Faculty - Chicano Studies (Ethnic Studies - Chicanx and Latinx Stud.)

Associate Faculty Pool

Santa Rosa Junior College is currently accepting applications on a continuous basis to establish a pool for associate faculty assignments. Associate assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate or as needed. The Sonoma County Junior College District does not offer 'remote only' assignments.

Assignments are made on a part-time, hourly basis. A part-time faculty assignment may not exceed a total of 67% of an annual full-time assignment. Starting Hourly Rate:

Salary placement is based on academic background, vocational experience, and teaching experience (depending on discipline) and as documented in application materials. Initial Step placement will be at Step 1 pending evaluation of experience as outlined in the AFA Contract Article 27. Compensation for assigned classes is paid over the duration of the assignment.

The District offers medical insurance for those who meet the eligibility requirements. Additional information, including medical plan information and eligibility requirements can be found on the Benefits page. Associate faculty accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis. SRJC offers CalSTRS Defined Benefit, CalSTRS Cash Balance and Social Security as Associate Faculty retirement options. Eligibility for each plan is determined based on prior membership status with CalSTRS.

Provide excellent instruction and faculty support to students, which may include evening, weekend, online or hybrid and/or off-campus assignments. Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff. Maintain currency in field(s) of expertise.

Associate faculty focus primarily on providing instruction and/or student services. Associate faculty are typically not required to participate in District or department service such as committee work, evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, and hiring committees, but may be asked to perform these services for additional compensation.

The Department of Ethnic Studies at Santa Rosa Junior College is comprised of African-American Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicanx & Latinx Studies, and Native American Studies. As a new Department, we are seeking dynamic scholar-teachers whose scholarship and teaching are centered on the cultures and histories of communities that have played a vital force in shaping America. Chicanx & Latinx Studies at Santa Rosa Junior College focuses on and prioritizes the culture, experiences, and contributions of Chicanx and Latinx communities with the context of U.S. society and culture.

The program centers on the intellectual development of Chicanx and Latinx scholarship, the advancement of arts and literature, and the emergence of the Chicanx and Latinx Civil Rights Movements. Successful candidates may teach courses pertinent to Ethnic Studies and Chicanx and Latinx Studies and use different methodologies to engage all students in diverse learning experiences. Our goal is to foster student understanding and competency in Chicanx and Latinx Studies.

Instructional formats include face-to-face, hybrid, and online, utilizing Canvas and a wide range of instructional delivery systems including innovative and creative uses of technology. We seek faculty with a steadfast commitment to vigorously confronting and dismantling white supremacy through education and multiracial collaboration and solidarity. We welcome scholar-teachers who use different methodologies to engage all students in diverse learning experiences and foster their understanding and competency in Chicanx and Latinx Studies.
