Art & Soul School is seeking an energetic, organized, knowledgeable, and inspiring Music Director to lead, develop, and grow our music department.

This is an in-person, part-time leadership position based in Santa Rosa, California. The typical schedule is Monday–Friday, approximately 3:00 PM–7:00 PM
, with occasional evenings and weekends required for recitals, performances, special events, staff training, and community outreach.

The Music Director is a hands-on department leader who will be actively present in the music program each afternoon. During regular hours, the Director will stay current with all music curriculum and department procedures, visit classrooms, observe instruction, mentor music staff, provide coaching and feedback, and ensure that Art & Soul policies, curriculum, procedures, deadlines, and program standards are consistently followed.

The Music Director will also maintain a small teaching schedule, both to remain connected to students and to establish a model for eventually training new music mentors in the Art & Soul curriculum and teaching methods.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Mentor and support our current music mentors through regular classroom observations, coaching, and feedback.
  • Become highly knowledgeable in all Art & Soul music curriculum and teaching standards.
  • Help teachers improve their instruction, classroom management, student engagement, and communication with families.
  • Identify areas where mentors need additional support or training.
  • Eventually train and onboard all new music mentors in Art & Soul curriculum, policies, and teaching methods.
  • Build a positive, collaborative, professional music team.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee all music recitals and performances.
  • Coordinate students, mentors, schedules, rehearsal logistics, music selections, and performance details.
  • Create memorable and exciting performance experiences for students and families.
  • Ensure performances are organized, professional, and aligned with Art & Soul standards.
3. Grow Enrollment & Improve Retention
  • Work strategically to increase music enrollment and strengthen student retention.
  • Identify opportunities to increase enrollment in private lessons, group music classes, and new music programs.
  • Help create engaging opportunities for current students to continue progressing within the music department.
  • Support open houses, trial lessons, community events, and other enrollment initiatives.
  • Monitor student participation and identify students who may be at risk of dropping out.
  • Work with administrative staff to improve the overall family experience.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain a regular teaching schedule within the music department.
  • Stay current on all music department curriculum, policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Monitor classroom quality and ensure curriculum is being taught consistently.
  • Communicate effectively with music mentors and administrative staff.
  • Help develop new music programs and opportunities as the department grows.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, special events, and community outreach.
  • Serve as a positive representative of Art & Soul School to students, families, staff, and the community.
