Position Overview
Join the Sonoma County Water Agency (Sonoma Water) as a Resource Programs Technician II and contribute to improving our environment! Working in the Environmental Resources Division, the Resource Programs Technician II works in the field and office to study, assess, and report on natural resources, environmental conditions, and fish and wildlife populations throughout the Russian River watershed. As a Resource Programs Technician II, you will support a multi‑faceted fish population monitoring program designed to inform the recovery of salmon and steelhead populations.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Installing and operating passive integrated transponder (PIT) detection systems
- Coordinating and conducting electrofishing surveys, snorkel surveys, spawner surveys, and fish trapping, which includes leading one or more entry‑level project staff
- Installing and maintaining electronic data loggers
- Collecting and compiling data using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and related software
- Producing written reports of findings for review by senior staff
- Providing technical assistance to the public and other governmental agencies on a variety of fish and wildlife issues
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Has education and experience related to fish and wildlife biological or ecological projects
- Has an understanding of the methods used in natural resources studies
- Possesses time management and problem‑solving skills with flexibility to address changing priorities
- Works collaboratively and is team‑oriented
- Has a genuine curiosity and interest in understanding nature and the environment
Regular shifts are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, with most of the work occurring outdoors. Weekend work is also required on occasion, assigned on a rotating basis, with occasional work on holidays depending on need.

Sonoma Water also maintains 75 miles of flood control channels and provides sanitation services.
