The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to support various assigned tasks, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and suggest improvements for workflow efficiency. The position requires proficiency in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, and decontamination processes.

Responsibilities

+ Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles.

+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

+ Collect and store specimens following established procedures.

+ Explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.

+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

+ Ensure accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.

+ Package specimens for transport and store them according to the required temperature.

+ Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

+ Attend annual department trainings.

+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.

Essential Skills

+ Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.

+ Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

+ High School Diploma or GED.

+ 2-4 years of experience in related roles.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience in troubleshooting and training.

+ Ability to make workflow recommendations.

+ Knowledge of specimen storage protocols.

Work Environment

This position is located in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. Employees are expected to comply with safety regulations, including OSHA and DEP standards, and attend annual department trainings to stay updated on best practices. The work may involve handling various specimen types, requiring careful adherence to protocols to maintain specimen integrity.

This is a Contract position based out of Santa Rosa, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
