Position: Court Reporter Job Shadowing

Overview

Sonoma County Superior Court is offering an unpaid Court Reporter Job Shadowing Program for students currently enrolled in an accredited court reporting school. This in-person opportunity allows aspiring court reporters to gain valuable real-world experience by shadowing an Official Court Reporter during live courtroom proceedings. Participants will observe and gain exposure to a variety of legal settings, including trials, preliminary hearings, and general calendars in felony departments.

The goal of this program is to help students develop essential skills in accurate, real-time verbatim reporting of legal proceedings.

Schedule

Schedule: 8:30 AM or 1:30 PM Start Time (based on court calendar)

Requirements
  • Must be currently enrolled in a court reporting school program.
  • This opportunity is open to both stenographic court reporters and voice reporters.
  • Must be available to start at 8:30 AM or 1:30 PM and remain until the courtroom takes a break or the calendar concludes for the session.
  • Must have a strong interest in pursuing a career in court reporting and demonstrate professionalism and discretion in a courtroom setting.
Important Notes
  • This is an unpaid shadowing opportunity. There are no wages, stipends, or benefits associated with this program.
  • Shadowing sessions take place in person at the courthouse.
  • Professional attire is required.
  • Must abide by professional standards of confidentiality and ethics.
