Schedule: Full-Time/NOC Shift (10:30pm-6:30am)
Salary: $50.00-$55.00 Hourly
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assists the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing Services in managing and directing the Nursing Services Department.
- Provides direct nursing care as necessary.
- Makes rounds to ensure nursing personnel perform their assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards.
- Makes rounds with physicians as necessary.
- Communicates information to nursing personnel regarding new resident admissions and resident discharges and provides oversight of admission and discharge processes.
- Reviews nursing personnel medical record documentation to ensure it is appropriately and accurately descriptive of the nursing care provided.
- Contributes to the development and maintenance of written nursing policies and procedures.
- Provides written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director of Nursing Services and Administrator concerning the operation of the nursing services department.
- Prepares for and participates in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
- Supports the Quality Assessment & Assurance Committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies.
- Serves on facility committees (infection control, policy advisory, pharmaceutical, budget, quality assessment and assurance, care planning, etc.).
- Evaluates and implements recommendations from established committees as they may pertain to nursing services.
- Ensures that all nurse aid trainees are under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Makes daily rounds of the nursing service department to ensure personnel are performing assignments per acceptable standards. Reports findings to the Director.
- Consults with the resident, their family, and the resident’s physician in planning the resident’s care, treatment, rehabilitation, etc.
- Notifies the resident’s attending physician and next of kin when there is a change in the resident’s condition.
- Determines nursing staffing levels to meet the needs of residents and ensures sufficient licensed nurses and CNAs are scheduled.
- Assists the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing Services in recruitment and selection of nursing staff.
- Ensures new nursing staff are properly oriented and trained.
- Assists in nursing staff work assignments and schedules.
- Resolves complaints and grievances made by nursing department personnel.
- Ensures nursing department employment actions are administered fairly and in compliance with the facility’s policy against discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
- Is responsible for covering open shifts when necessary.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a hospital, long‑term care facility, or other related health care facility.
- Must possess an active Registered Nurse license valid in this state.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must be able to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
- Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long‑term care.
- Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, and be willing to handle difficult residents.
- Works in office area(s) as well as throughout the nursing service area (nurse’s stations, resident rooms, etc.).
- Moves intermittently during working hours and is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Interacts with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies, and others under all conditions.
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
