The Position

About the position:
The Transportation and Public Works Electrical Section maintains over 16,000 streetlights within the City of Santa Rosa as well as electrical systems in over 100 City buildings. Additionally, the Electricians are responsible for conducting underground service alerts that identify all City owned electrical lines in the public right of way. The Electrician's duties include but are not limited to, performing complex, journey level electrical work to maintain, install or repair City electrical systems;

performing preventative maintenance on street lighting systems, motors, and equipment to ensure their safe operation; inspecting newly installed electrical equipment and lighting to ensure safe operation and code compliance; repairing worn or defecting electrical components or parts including, pumps, controllers, fixtures and equipment; and performing digging, trenching, and occasional concrete removal and finishing and installing electrical conduit and conductors.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have completed a commercial apprenticeship program
  • Possess the ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively on a crew
  • Demonstrate a prideful work ethic
  • Be safety oriented and adhere to all safety regulations, standards, and codes
  • Have an organized, detail-oriented, analytical propensity
  • Be experienced performing work at heights and in emergency/ hazardous situations
  • Have experience working with, and around, high voltages

Additionally, possession of an IMSA certification in traffic signal maintenance is highly desirable. Within one (1) year of employment the incumbent must possess and maintain an International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I certification in traffic signal maintenance. Possession of, or ability to obtain IMSA Level II certification in traffic signal maintenance is highly desirable. Additionally, possession of (or ability to obtain immediately upon hire) a Class C California motor vehicle operator's license is required.

Thirty-six months of recent satisfactory driving history is required, and job offers will be contingent upon meeting the City of Santa Rosa Driving History Standard, viewable by clicking HERE. Possession of a Class A license will be required prior to completion of the probationary period for positions where the license is required for performance of job duties. The City of Santa Rosa will pay the expenses for the Class A commercial training and Internation Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level 1 certificate in traffic signal maintenance.
