Traffic Paint And Sign Worker
This recruitment is promotional only. You must presently be a full or part-time regular or probationary County of Sonoma, Community Development Commission, Sonoma County Fairgrounds, or Sonoma County Water Agency employee in order to apply for this position. Sonoma Public Infrastructure (SPI) has requested a department promotional certification to fill a Traffic Paint and Sign Worker position. Only qualified permanent and/or probationary Sonoma Public Infrastructure employees on the eligible list may be eligible for referral to the department for the advertised position.

As a Traffic Paint and Sign Worker, you will be responsible for:
- Painting traffic markings on roads, installing reflective markings and rumble striping, painting highway structures, installing and maintaining road signs, operating and maintaining striping equipment, flagging traffic, and related duties
- Leading work crew members and training them on the safe operation of hand-held and power tools such as striping machines, air compressors, and specialized sign making equipment
- Maintaining the vehicles and equipment used
- Estimating quantities of materials and supplies
- Using a computer and iPad to complete daily time logs, work orders, and material logs
The ideal candidate will have experience in traffic signage and traffic paint striping and will possess many of the following:
- Experience with tools and equipment used in the installation of traffic control signs, such as basic hand tools, drills, and Sawzall
- Knowledge of the methods, procedures, materials and equipment used to paint parking and traffic control markings on streets, curbs, and parking lots, including proper preparation, calibration, and use of equipment
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to follow directions
- Forklift Certification is desired, but not required
- Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement is desired, but not required

Minimum qualifications include:

Two years of experience in traffic maintenance work which included training in the operation of painting and striping equipment or the erection and maintenance of highway signs - License:
Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position. The position advertised on this announcement does require possession of a valid California Driver's License.
Knowledge of: specialized equipment used in painting, striping, and sign making; machines and power hand tools used in the traffic painting; types of painting methods, materials and application, and proper placement and installation of traffic signs, and the post mile system; operational and preventive maintenance requirements and standards for specialized equipment and machines; principles and techniques of leading others. Ability to: operate painting and striping equipment;
train and provide supervision over a crew of employees; paint signs with brushes and stencils; follow standard specifications and written and oral instructions; perform heavy physical labor; work effectively with others; read and write English; keep simple records and prepare reports; perform basic arithmetic calculations.
The selection procedure will consist of the following examination:
An Application and Supplemental Questionnaire Appraisal Examination (weight 100%) will be conducted to evaluate each applicant's application and supplemental questionnaire for satisfaction of minimum qualifications (pass/not pass); and for educational coursework, training, experience, knowledge, and abilities which relate to this position.
Additional requirements, such as successful completion of a physical exam, drug screen, etc., may apply, depending on the duties and responsibilities of the position.
