Job Description

Equipment Operation and Technology Use: Operates a wide range of farm and motorized equipment, including units equipped with navigation and mapping technologies. This may include the operation of pesticide application equipment in accordance with applicable regulations and safety standards. The incumbent must be capable of conducting these activities independently while maintaining constant communication with the Farm Manager. Driving will be required.

Field Operations Support: Assist in coordination and implementation of planting, fertilizing, harvesting, and sampling of research and extension demonstration plots. Accurately maintains digital and written records related to field activities, equipment uses, and plot operations. Responsible for helping train lower-level farm crew members.

Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance: Coordinates and performs maintenance and operation of WFREC farm equipment and vehicles. Responsible for conducting annual inspections of all University of Florida vehicles assigned to WFREC. Performs minor repairs and selected major repairs on WFREC vehicles and equipment. Conducts routine vehicle maintenance including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and basic transmission servicing.

Perform other tasks as assigned.

Must be able to maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Must have or obtain a Commercial pesticide applicators license within 90 days of employment.

Expected Salary

Starting at $16.26 per hour; compensation is negotiable and commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Valid driver's license.

Preferred

Ability and experience in operation of large and small farm equipment to include tractors, combines, pickers, loaders, backhoes, turf care equipment, trucks and vans. Should be able to set up and operate all types of farm equipment including those with computer-based guidance systems for precision operations and record keeping. Ability to read and understand pesticide labels.

Demonstrated proficiency in standard office software applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
