Job Description
Microchip's Frequency and Timing Systems (FTS) Business Unit provides precise timing and synchronization solutions for telecom, wireless, military, scientific, and enterprise systems. We are seeking an entry-level Software Engineer to join our Santa Rosa engineering team. This role is well suited for a recent college graduate or an early-career software engineer with 0-2.5 years of experience who is interested in developing embedded software for high-precision frequency and timing systems.
Responsibilities- Develop, debug, and test embedded software for precise frequency and timing systems.
- Participate in software module design with a focus on efficiency, reliability, and reusability.
- Learn and apply precise frequency and timing concepts.
- Build knowledge of communication networks and frequency and timing communication protocols.
- Collaborate with project managers, software engineers, and hardware engineers to support successful product development.
- Partner with system testing teams to analyze, identify, and resolve software defects.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 0-2.5 years of relevant software engineering experience, including coursework, internships, projects, or professional experience.
- Successful completion of core electrical engineering and computer science coursework.
- Working knowledge of C and C++ gained through coursework, projects, internships, or related experience.
- Good understanding of data structures and encapsulated software design.
- Understanding of basic data analysis principles.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- General understanding of the product development process and design controls.
- Understanding of computer networks and TCP/IP communication protocols.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Understanding of ML/AI concepts.
- Experience using AI tools for software development.

Pay RangeWe offer a total compensation package that ranks among the best in the industry. It consists of competitive base pay, restricted stock units, and quarterly bonus payments. In addition to these components, our package includes health benefits that begin day one, retirement savings plans, and an industry leading ESPP program with a 2‑year look back feature. The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in the U.S., is $70,304 – $143,000.
