An established transportation services company is seeking an experienced, hands‑on, and results‑driven Fleet (Shop) Manager to lead the maintenance and reliability of a commercial vehicle fleet consisting of 16 Passenger Coach Buses and 5 Ford Transit Vans in Sonoma, CA.
We're looking for a hands‑on leader who diagnoses issues, works side‑by‑side with mechanics, and provides structure, direction, and accountability for the shop. If you lead best by example and take pride in being physically involved in the work, this role is built for you.
Salary: $90,000 to $110,000
Key Responsibilities- Work alongside mechanics daily, performing diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance as needed.
- Lead from the shop floor, setting the standard for workmanship, safety, and efficiency
- Oversee and participate in daily maintenance operations to ensure all vehicles meet OEM, DOT, and California safety standards
- Assign work, mentor technicians, and actively support complex or high‑priority repairs
- Oversee scheduling and documentation of preventative maintenance using fleet management software
- Order parts, manage inventory, and assist with troubleshooting parts and vendor issues
- Respond to and assist with roadside emergencies and after‑hours incidents when required
- Analyze vehicle performance, fuel economy, and maintenance trends to proactively address mechanical issues
- Communicate regularly with regional leadership and provide clear, accurate operational reporting
- Maintain a strong safety‑first culture through direct involvement and enforcement of standards
- Valid CDL Class B with Passenger (P) endorsement (required)
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a diesel or fleet mechanic
- 3+ years in a leadership role where you actively worked on vehicles while supervising others
- Master ASE Certification or equivalent technical/trade school training
- Strong diagnostic capability across diesel systems and fleet equipment
- Comfortable balancing physical work and leadership responsibilities in a fast‑paced environment
- Proficiency with fleet maintenance software, diagnostic tools, and Microsoft Outlook
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coach and motivate technicians
- Must pass pre‑employment screenings
- Willingness to work on‑call shifts, including during inclement weather
