Job DescriptionJob Summary: This is an entry level position that increases access to educational and enrichment services for PreK to 8th grade students. The role works with individual and groups of students to ensure a safe and supportive environment that promotes social, emotional, physical, and academic development.
Responsibilities- Conduct and manage student groups using careful and effective supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Provide active and engaging learning and enrichment activities that align with the District Program Plan.
- Align daily activities while creating a safe and supportive environment for students.
- Communicate positively and appropriately with parents and staff regarding students in relation to the Expanded Learning Program.
- Utilize established methods to monitor students at all times (e.g., arrival, departure, transitions, facility use, and on field trips).
- Implement District Action Plan for quality improvement that reflects continuous growth as directed by the supervisor.
- Prepare and distribute nutritious snacks in a sanitary manner.
- Provide basic first aid/CPR/AED as needed.
- Maintain an organized classroom/learning environment.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.
- General developmental stages and behaviors of students.
- Developmental and behavioral characteristics of students with special needs.
- Proper handling techniques of (bio) hazardous materials.
- Current computer operations.
- Use correct grammar and spelling in oral and written communication.
- Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships.
- Validate and motivate students per program guidelines.
- Meet scheduled timelines.
- Work effectively with constant interruptions.
- Work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
Completion of high school or equivalent. Prior experience working with youth preferred.
District Paraprofessional Proficiency Exam certification mandated by the State of California for Instructional Assistants. Certification may be granted in one of the following three ways:
- Possession of an associate degree (AA).
- Completion of 48 college semester units (official transcripts required).
- Completion of a District‑approved proficiency test.
Additional Requirements for Yale Preschool Only:
Twelve (12) semester units in early childhood education, including units in child development, child‑family, and community, and curriculum. Child Development Associate Teacher Permit, Child Development Teacher Permit, or Child Development Master Teacher Permit also qualify.
Yale Preschool Requirements: Influenza immunization (or current proof of vaccination between 8/1‑11/30);
Tdap immunization (or proof of vaccination within the last 10 years) and MMR clearance (or proof of vaccination / immunity).
Continuing
Education Requirements:
Complete 10 hours of professional development per academic year.
Licenses and Other Certificates: Possession of First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate issued by an authorized agency.
Working Conditions /Physical Requirements
- This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy indoor/outdoor environment.
- Occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing up to 25 pounds such as playground equipment and instructional materials. Occasionally team‑lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching, to reach materials.
- Reaching at and above shoulder level for supplies and other equipment.
- Gripping to manipulate objects and fine finger dexterity.
- Various levels of standing, sitting, and walking.
- Hearing and speaking to communicate with intermittent background noise.
- Visual acuity to read documents and computer screen.
- Potential for contact with (bio) hazardous materials.
