Job DescriptionDEFINITION
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to limited or non-English speaking students in an assigned learning environment; tutor students individually or in small groups; prepare instructional materials and perform general clerical duties in support of learning activities.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Knowledge of:
- Correct oral and written usage of English and a designated second language.
- Methods and techniques used in instructing limited and non-English speaking students.
- Basic subjects taught in elementary school.
- Interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic recordkeeping methods.
Ability to:
- Learn and implement instructional techniques utilized with limited non-English speaking students.
- Translate written materials and interpret for parents, students and teachers in a designated second language.
- Maintain records related to student progress and grades.
- Understand and apply rules, regulations, procedures and policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Perform routine clerical tasks in support of instructional activities.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Licenses and other Certification:
Some positions in this classification may be required to possess a valid California Driver’s License in order to drive personal vehicle from site to site to conduct work.
NCLB Certification required in one of three ways:
- Possession of an Associates Degree (AA).
- Completion of 48 college semester units (official transcripts required).
- Completion and passage of the District-approved NCLB proficiency test.
Training and
Experience:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience with school age children in an organized setting.
Working Conditions: Elementary school classroom or other learning environment.
