The RoleThe
HR & Safety Manager
is responsible for supporting our employees and leadership team through practical, fair, and compliant HR practices, while also leading workplace safety, OSHA compliance, and accident prevention efforts.
This role is the go-to person for employee relations, training, compliance, and safety programs. You will work closely with supervisors and ownership and play a key role in maintaining a positive, respectful, and safe workplace.
This position balances people management with hands-on safety leadership in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:Hiring & New Employees
- Post job openings, interview applicants, and help choose the right people
- Handle new hire paperwork and lead orientation and onboarding
- Ensure safety training is part of onboarding for all new employees
- Run annual performance reviews for 60+ employees
- Conduct 90-day reviews with regular check-ins and supervisor input, and report updates directly to ownership
- Help supervisors improve communication, leadership, and people management
- Handle employee concerns, conflicts, and complaints in a practical, fair, and respectful way
- Lead disciplinary actions, terminations, and layoffs when needed, following the law and company policy
- Manage workers’ compensation claims and support employees through the process
- Partner with ownership and supervisors on injury response and return-to-work coordination
- Maintain employee payroll records, including hours worked and time off balances
- Manage benefits and leave programs, including medical leave and state disability
- Keep the employee handbook and HR policies up to date and easy to understand
- Help make sure the company follows employment and workplace laws
- Support audits, documentation, and regulatory recordkeeping as needed
- Lead and manage the company’s workplace safety program
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable safety regulations
- Investigate workplace accidents and near-misses, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
- Maintain required safety documentation
- Coordinate safety inspections and respond to regulatory inquiries when needed
- Develop, implement, and track safety procedures and best practices
- Work with supervisors to identify hazards and reduce workplace risk
- Lead safety training and required workplace training
- Run monthly safety committee meetings, help identify problems, track solutions, and report progress to ownership
- Develop and deliver ongoing safety education for employees and supervisors
- Help plan employee events, anniversaries, and celebrations
- Support a respectful, team-oriented, and safety-first culture
- Fluent in both Spanish and English, required
- At least 5 years of hands-on HR experience
- Experience with workplace safety programs and OSHA compliance in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong understanding of California and federal employment laws
- Honest, approachable, and able to build trust with employees and leadership
- Confident handling of sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism
- Well organized, dependable, and detail-oriented
- Experience using HR systems, payroll platforms, and timekeeping systems
- SHRM or HRCI certification is a plus, but not required
- Safety certifications (OSHA, safety management, or similar) are a plus
- Strong, verifiable professional references
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Safety Management, or related field required
- Pay range: $80,000 to $90,000 per year (depending on experience and safety background)
