Job Description

The head varsity golf coach works under the direct supervision of the athletic director, the general supervision of the site principal, and works closely with the OSSAA and athletic conferences. The coach is hired as the head of golf operations and is expected to provide leadership to plan, organize, and be responsible for a comprehensive interscholastic golf program. Additionally, this position will need to carry out the objectives of the total school athletic program, including middle, junior high and junior varsity programs (men’s and women’s).

Varsity head coaches are expected to have previous successful varsity coaching experience and experience in playing the sport at the collegiate or high school level. The coach is expected to maintain effective communication with athletes, school administration, staff, students, parents, and the community. The job may include either teaching duties and/or assistant athletic director responsibilities, and/or junior high coordinator duties depending on the certification areas of the applicant.

They will coach and provide direction to student‑athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Essential Functions
  • Follows and maintains knowledge of all district and athletic department policies and procedures.
  • Follows and maintains knowledge of all policies of the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) and the NCAA.
  • Exhibits loyalty to the athletic department and school district.
  • Assists instruction and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement.
  • Assists in planning and setting up activities, practices, and/or games.
  • Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner.
  • Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student‑athletes at all times.
  • Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
  • Travels with student‑athletes on team transportation both to and from games/events.
  • Ensures the medical and safety requirements are followed.
  • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential student records and inquiries.
  • Professionally represents the school and the district in interactions with students, parents, community, and staff at all times.
  • Follow all athletic department handbook and athletic director directives.
  • Follows and maintains knowledge of all district financial/booster club policies and procedures.
  • Possible teaching positions:
    Social studies, math, or English.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate; preferred, but not required.
  • Certificates as determined by Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA).
  • Commercial driver’s license (CDL); preferred, but not required.
  • Previous high school head coaching experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Computer literate, excellent written and oral communication ability, knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and laws applicable to education and special education, knowledge in Oklahoma State Department of Education regulations related to curriculum and instruction. Ability to follow all district policies and procedures. Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators. Ability to work without supervision and work as a team player.

Ability to document records accurately. Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees. Ability to listen effectively. Ability to maintain emotional control under stressful situations and when working with students exhibiting non-compliant behaviors.
