Paraprofessional Position
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma (must provide documentation)
- Associate Degree or higher or 48 credit hours of higher education or pass a Para Pro test or ACT Work Keys (must have one completed prior to being hired and provide documentation)
- Valid driver's license may be required
- Must be able to bend, crouch, kneel, grasp, lift to 50 lbs, carry, push and pull to assist children with disabilities
* OSDE Paraprofessional Certificate Preferred
Must be completed within the first 120 calendar days of employment (district provides training):
- 24 hour SDE Paraprofessional training or SDE approved equivalent
- CPR and First Aid Training
- Universal Precautions Training (Bloodborne Pathogens)
Essential Job Functions:
- Direct and indirect instruction and supervision of students
- Maintain professionalism, i.e. confidentiality, adhere to school schedules, refer parents/other professionals/phone calls to the teacher/principal regarding any questions, clarifications other than routine matters
- Respect, support and implement the philosophy of the classroom teacher in all environments at site
- Assist teacher(s) with the preparation of materials and classroom cleaning protocols
- Adheres to schedule, assisting students with transitions as appropriate (lunch, bathroom, specials).
- Assists in lifting students as instructed for safety from chair to and from changing table and/or toilet
- Assists student with diapering/toileting, feeding/tube feeding needs as appropriate
- Collaborates with service providers PT, OT, SLP, vision and/or orientation specialists to assist with meeting the physical and training needs of students
- Attend staffing and IEP meetings at the request of the team
- Supervise non-instructional activities
- Clerical tasks - charting, data collecting, record-keeping, etc.
- Maintain required 6 hours of professional development (yearly)-may include CPI training
- Maintain CPR/First Aid certification
- Attend staff meetings as requested
- Assist with special events as requested
- Assist with student needs as listed on IEP
- Performs all other duties as assigned by a supervisor
