Radial Drill Operator

Radial drill operator sets up, operates, and maintains industrial radial drilling machines to drill, tap, bore, or ream holes in metal components based on blueprints and technical specifications. They are responsible for aligning heavy work pieces, selecting appropriate tools, monitoring machining precision, and inspecting finished parts using precision tools.
Key Responsibilities- Machine Operation:
Operate radial drill machines to perform drilling, tapping, and reaming operations, often on large or heavy metal parts. - Setup and Alignment:
Position, align, and secure work pieces on the table, often using hoists and cranes to lift heavy components. - Technical Interpretation:
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine specific hole locations, sizes, and tolerances. - Tooling Selection:
Choose and install proper drill bits, taps, and cutters for the specific material and job requirements. - Quality Inspection:
Use measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify that finished parts meet specifications. - Maintenance & Safety:
Perform routine maintenance on machinery and adhere strictly to safety guidelines to prevent accidents in a production environment.
Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
Prior manufacturing or machine operator experience is often required.
Technical
Skills:
Ability to read blueprints and use, for example, Mitutoyo micrometers and Starrett calipers.
Mechanical Aptitude:
Strong understanding of machinery and tools.
Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy materials.
