A Quad Subarc (Submerged Arc Welding, or SAW) welder operates an automated, multi-head welding machine to join heavy steel. They set up, program, and monitor 4-head systems to produce deep, high-deposition welds for thick industrial materials like pressure vessels, structural beams, and large-diameter pipes.

Key Responsibilities

• Equipment Setup:
  Configure 4 independent welding heads, wire feeders, and flux hoppers for continuous, high-volume production runs.
• Machine Operation:
  Monitor system parameters (amperage, voltage, travel speed, and wire feed speed) to ensure proper penetration and bead profiles.
• Material Preparation:
  Align, clamp, and fit-up large steel components using jigs, positioners, or overhead cranes.
• Quality Control:
  Inspect welds to meet strict engineering blueprints and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), performing post-weld slag removal, grinding, and arc-gouging as needed.
• Safety Compliance:
  Adhere to rigorous safety protocols and maintain PPE standards in environments with heat, fumes, and heavy equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Experience:
  
  2 to 5+ years of heavy industrial welding experience, specifically in automated or semi-automatic SAW.
• Technical
  
  Skills:
  
  Ability to read blueprints, interpret weld symbols, and follow complex metric or standard measurement specifications.
• Certifications:
  
  Ability to pass a formal 1G or 6G welding test; AWS (American Welding Society) or CWB certifications are highly preferred.
• Physical Requirements:
  
  Capable of standing for long periods, climbing on/around large fabrications, and routinely lifting/moving up to 50 lbs.
