Description

  • Supervise daily spool fabrication activities, including fit-up, welding, cutting, assembly, and preparation for inspection.
  • Assign personnel and equipment to production activities based on workload, priorities, and employee qualifications.
  • Monitor production progress and ensure spool fabrication meets established schedules and production targets
  • Review fabrication drawings, isometric drawings, weld maps, material specifications, and work instructions.
  • Coordinate work sequencing to minimize delays, material shortages, equipment conflicts, and rework.
  • Monitor shop floor productivity and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and throughput.
  • Ensure completed spools are properly identified, marked, protected, and prepared for the next stage of production or shipment.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture throughout the fabrication area.
  • Ensure employees follow company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable oil and gas industry standards.
  • Conduct or participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard assessments.
  • Identify and correct unsafe working conditions and behaviors.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE, lifting equipment, welding equipment, cutting equipment, and other shop machinery.
  • Report and investigate safety incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions as required.
  • Ensure fabrication activities comply with approved drawings, welding procedures, quality plans, and customer specifications.
  • Coordinate with Quality Control and Welding Inspectors for required inspections and testing.
  • Verify proper material identification and traceability throughout the fabrication process.
  • Monitor weld quality, dimensional accuracy, fit-up, and overall workmanship.
  • Help identify the causes of defects, rework, and nonconformances and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure required documentation, inspection records, weld records, and production paperwork are completed accurately.
  • Lead, coach, and develop pipe fitters, welders, helpers, fabricators, and other assigned personnel.
  • Monitor employee performance, attendance, productivity, and adherence to company policies.
  • Ensure work is assigned according to employee qualifications, certifications, and experience.
  • Provide training and mentoring to improve employee skills and performance.
  • Address performance issues professionally and escalator disciplinary matters according to company policy.
  • Maintain effective communication with employees across shifts and departments.
  • Coordinate with Materials/Warehouse personnel to ensure required pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, and other components are available.
  • Monitor material usage and help prevent waste, damage, and loss.
  • Ensure tools, welding machines, cranes, forklifts, and other equipment are properly maintained and available for production.
  • Report equipment problems and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Review daily and weekly production schedules and establish priorities for the fabrication team.
  • Communicate production status, delays, manpower requirements, and material shortages to management.
  • Track spool completion and production performance.
  • Participate in production planning meetings and provide realistic completion estimates.
  • Maintain accurate shift reports, production records, and other required documentation.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience in pipe spool fabrication, oil and gas manufacturing, industrial construction, or a related field.
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience in a fabrication environment.
  • Strong understanding of pipe fabrication, fit-up, welding, and spool assembly.
  • Ability to read and interpret piping isometric drawings, fabrication drawings, weld maps, and material specifications.
