Machine Operator
The Machine Operator is responsible for safely operating powered industrial equipment (sit‑down/stand‑up forklifts, loaders) to move heavy, bulky materials, while also setting up and operating machinery (saws, routers, grinders, drills) to process metal or lumber to specifications. This role includes loading/unloading trucks, managing inventory via scans, and ensuring a safe, clean work environment.
Core Responsibilities- Forklift Operation:
Operate heavy‑duty forklifts (18,000lb+ capacity frequently required in steel) to move structural steel, scrap metal, or timber. Load and unload flatbed trailers and containers. - Machine Operation:
Set up, adjust, and operate metal roll former machinery; custom trim machines to cut and shape materials to specifications. - Material Handling:
Transport raw materials to workstations and transfer finished products to staging areas. - Safety & Compliance:
Adhere to strict OSHA regulations and company safety procedures, including wearing PPE (safety boots, safety gloves). - Maintenance & Quality Control:
Perform daily pre‑shift inspections of forklifts and machines. Inspect finished parts/lumber for accuracy using tape measures or calipers. - Documentation:
Maintain inventory records, cut sheets, daily activity logs, and any required production documentation.
- Forklift Operator Certification will be issued on‑site.
- 1–2 years of experience operating heavy, high‑capacity forklifts in a manufacturing or lumber environment.
- Physical Strength:
Ability to frequently lift, push, pull, and carry objects weighing 50–100 lbs. - Technical
Skills:
Ability to read blueprints, work orders, and use measuring tools (tape measure, calipers); prior experience a plus. - Stamina:
Ability to stand for long periods and work in extreme temperatures. - Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Environment:
Loud, fast‑paced factory setting with high‑temperature variations. - Hazards:
Exposure to sparks, fumes, sharp metal, flying particles, and heavy moving equipment. - Physical Activity:
Frequent lifting, bending, and reaching.
