Job Description Summary

The Vertex Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for repairing, installing, alignment, troubleshooting, and performing preventive maintenance on plant process equipment. This role plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of our facility and ensuring the continuous production of high-quality products.

Essential Job Functions
  • Troubleshoot, repair, install, align, and perform preventative maintenance on single stage, multi-stage centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, reciprocating gas compressors, centrifugal gas compressors, steam turbine drivers, fin fan coolers, fin fan gear boxes, compressed air-intake blowers, valves in reciprocating H2 compressors, as well as troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems
  • Check and adjust overspeed trips and governor speed controls on steam turbines
  • Take measurements with inside/outside micrometers and other measurement instruments on pump internal parts
  • Monitor and accurately recording temperatures, pressures, and flow rates
  • Conduct inspections to identify wear and tear, damage, or potential issues that could lead to equipment failure
  • Execute preventive maintenance tasks according to schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment to identify the root causes of malfunctions
  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, blueprints, drawings
  • Ensure all repairs comply with safety standards and regulations
  • Able to update work orders and other information in a computerized maintenance system including equipment performance, repair history, and maintenance recommendations
  • Identify and report any potential safety hazards or risks in the workplace
  • Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to problem‑solving efforts
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to implement upgrades or modifications as needed
  • Provide technical support and guidance to less experienced technicians when required
  • Respond to emergency requests for repairs/replacements
  • Participate in safety training and contribute to a culture of safety awareness
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with colleagues, fostering a positive work environment
  • Strictly adhere to safety protocols, procedures, and guidelines while performing maintenance and repair tasks
  • Work at heights: climb ladders, scaffolding and stairs, walk on high elevation grating
  • Operate equipment such as fork trucks and manlifts
  • Able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Work in inclement weather, work around loud industrial equipment, work in confined spaces
  • Willingness to work in close proximity with co‑workers
  • Willing to work day/night shifts, weekends and holidays, be available for callouts

Experience & Qualifications
  • 5+ years industry experience as an industrial mechanic or relevant military experience
  • Crane lifting and hoisting, manlift, and forklift experience preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing corrective repairs and preventive maintenance
  • Understand basics of process operations
  • Must have experience and proficiency conducting Job Hazard Analysis and Permit to Work Process
Basic Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States permanently on a full‑time basis without requiring sponsorship.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and write English fluently.
  • Hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • As part of the pre‑employment selection process, candidates are required to submit to and receive satisfactory results from all pre‑employment background checks including but not limited to drug screening (including a hair sample), medical evaluation, and reference checks.
