Job Description Summary
Visitor Experience Associates support the Sarasota Art Museum and serve as representatives for Ringling College through daily interaction and direct, personal engagement. As a member of a larger team, Visitor Experience Associates are responsible for creating a positive, enthusiastic people-centric environment to welcome, anticipate and exceed the needs of all who visit the Museum Campus with the hope of creating lasting impressions and inspired connection.

Successful VEAs are approachable, comfortable initiating, able to adapt with guest flow (high volume vs quieter and more focused), capable of pivoting and flexible in adapting to changes
based on Museum needs.

The Visitor Experience Associate role is a unique and highly visible position, serving as both a professional steward and caretaker of the Museum's exhibitions, embodying the Sarasota Art Museum Mission and furthering its vision, while assisting with Museum visitation, membership outreach, educational programming and special events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As needs require and skill sets allow, Visitor Experience Associates may be assigned to duties across all areas of the Visitor Experience throughout the Museum Campus, as assigned.

All VEAs begin in and are required to work within the Museum galleries. Gallery positioning requires a proactive, engaging and professional presence, while providing visitors accurate information about the Museum, with its exhibitions and amenities being an essential part of this positioning. When posted in gallery, VEAs extend exceptional attention and service to all visitors, ensure the safety of the exhibition artwork and communicate necessary Museum policies.

VEAs also convey visitor feedback and share the benefits of membership. VEAs may also be positioned in outdoor or other spaces to assist and guide visitors in exploring art beyond the Museum galleries, and/or assist with programming or events in a Visitor Experience or way finding capacity.

Duties and responsibilities listed do not describe all position functions. VEAs may be assigned other duties, and Visitor Experience roles may evolve as do the needs of the Museum, Members and Visitors.

  • Reliable attention to detail and timeliness.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including, weekends, holidays, and occasional events.
  • Keen interest in participating in a larger learning community - sparking curiosity and encouraging creative thought - while creating memorable Visitor and Museum Member experiences.
Work Schedule:

20-24 hours/week, part-time role with a varied, changing schedule - including weekends, holidays and programming/events.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Familiarity with internet and email
  • Ability to walk and stand in galleries for extended periods of time while maintaining awareness
Required:
  • Background and Credit Report
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Multilingual
  • Spanish language fluency
  • Cultural competency
