Civil/Environmental Engineer

An established private-sector engineering firm is seeking an experienced Civil or Environmental Engineer with a Florida PE license to join its growing team in Sarasota, FL.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineer who wants greater technical responsibility, client interaction, and career advancement. The selected professional will work closely with company leadership and have the opportunity to develop into a Technical Lead, Project Manager, and/or Client Services Manager.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on private-sector design and project experience, strong knowledge of Florida engineering requirements, and the ability to step into a leadership role. Candidates with substantial water/wastewater experience and established client relationships are especially encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and/or oversee engineering calculations, designs, assessments, studies, master plans, models, construction documents, specifications, permit applications, and technical reports.
  • Lead projects as a Project Manager or Technical Lead based on project size and complexity.
  • Support pilot studies, GIS/CADD assignments, hydraulic and engineering modeling, construction engineering/inspection activities, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, cost estimates, proposals, presentations, and other business-development materials.
  • Work directly with clients, consultants, vendors, and internal engineering and CADD personnel.
  • Research emerging technologies, regulatory requirements, engineering practices, and innovative project solutions.
  • Contribute to water, wastewater, reclaimed water, stormwater, low-impact development, asset management, and related infrastructure initiatives.
  • Assist with business development and help identify opportunities to expand client relationships.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight to engineers, designers, and other support personnel.
  • Participate in occasional site visits, pilot projects, and client meetings throughout Southwest and West Central Florida.
  • Develop toward broader responsibilities involving project delivery, asset management, digital technology, consulting, and construction-phase engineering services.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 6 years of professional engineering experience; the target profile is approximately 8–15 years.
  • Active Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain Florida licensure within 4 months.
  • Hands-on private-sector engineering design and project experience.
  • Strong understanding of Florida engineering practices and requirements.
  • Experience with project management and technical leadership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to independently manage assignments while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to oversee and provide direction to engineers and CADD/design support staff.
  • Valid driver's license and excellent driving record.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AutoCAD 3D.
  • Experience with GIS, hydraulic/modeling tools, or engineering databases.
  • Background in water, wastewater, reclaimed water, water resources, or site development.
  • Master's degree in water/wastewater, water resources, site development, or a related discipline.
  • Previous project management training or substantial project management experience.
  • Experience with innovative water technologies, pilot studies, asset management, CMOM, or smart-utility initiatives.
  • Established relationships or business-development experience within the Florida water/infrastructure market.
