Planning And Development Services Team Member

To provide advanced professional and lead planning and design work in directing major activities or strategic initiatives in Planning Service including Comprehensive Plan Amendments, major Planning related activities, Strategic Initiatives, Critical Area Planning, and revitalization/redevelopment plans; serves as a project resource to county initiatives; provides analysis and recommendations on community planning and urban design issues; works with other departments and divisions to efficiently align work programs, and is involved in a high degree of public involvement and interaction.

Participates in a project lead capacity in the review and processing of Comprehensive Plan Amendments, rezones, special exceptions, large scale developments, neighborhood planning, DRI and DOCC petitions. Prepare staff reports, public hearing packets, ads and notices, adhere to eGenda timeline criteria. Accurately post billable hours into LIMS program. Participate in neighborhood workshops, preliminary, and pre-application meetings with applicants.

Represents Planning and Development Services at public hearings, presentations and meetings with the Sarasota County Commission, Planning Commission, and Advisory Boards. Coordinates with other Departments, municipalities, adjacent county governments and other jurisdictions, advises and assists other Departments, regional and state agencies, attorneys and other interested parties with respect to planning initiatives and projects. Serves as a member of the Development Review Committee as needed.

Participate in intergovernmental coordination activities representing Sarasota County and assisting the general public, County agencies and departments with general information requests.

Other Duties as assigned or delegates, including participation in Planner of the Day duties, assisting the general public and County agencies and departments with general information requests.

Work Hours:

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Urban and Regional Planning or a major recognized by the American Planning Association as related field. A minimum of four (4) years related professional planning experience in the field of land use and/or public facilities planning. A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Urban and Regional Planning or a major recognized by the American Planning Association as "related" can substitute for one-year of required experience.

Progressively responsible professional experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

AICP certification is highly preferred. Project Management, GIS Mapping experience is preferred.

Competencies:

Principles and practices of public planning, data and demographic analysis, GIS analyses, economic development including retail trade analyses, land use and public facilities planning, local and state laws, rules and regulations pertaining to land use planning, complex project management, effective leadership skills, facilitation skills, interpersonal skills, polished public speaking skills, advanced written and oral communications skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software and become proficient in County used software such as LIMS, SharePoint, ArcGIS, eGenda, KRONOS, and other software which the County may utilize.

Pay: $50,024.00 – $67,267.20
