This is a part‑time position as an Associate Instructor. The teaching assignment may require teaching lecture‑discussion courses during day, evening or on Saturday and/or in an online/distance education format. Assignments are as needed, during Spring, Summer and/or Fall semesters. The position is represented by the West Valley‑Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT), AFT 6554.

Salary is based on a percentage of workload, up to a maximum of 67% of a full‑time load. It is prorated based on an initial hiring salary range of $36,191 – $52,297 per semester and is based on academic achievement, teaching and related experience.

• Education:
  
  Possess one of the following:
  Master’s degree in the category of disability (learning disabilities), special education, education, psychology, educational psychology or rehabilitation counseling, AND fifteen (15) semester units of upper‑division or graduate study in an area of disability (learning disabilities);
  or possession of a valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Special Education (Handicapped);
  or the equivalent of the above.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

• Minimum of one year experience teaching adults with learning disabilities and other disabilities in an academic setting.
• Experience teaching basic academic skills classes in arithmetic, pre‑algebra, beginning algebra, reading, writing and learning strategy skills.
• Completion of (or eligibility for) the California Community College Chancellors Office training on determining eligibility for learning disability services and accommodations.
• Training and experience in administering and scoring the state‑mandated diagnostic assessments, to include Woodcock Johnson Psycho‑Educational Battery III (WJ III) or the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale IV (WAIS IV).
• Knowledge of the methods and principles of teaching students with learning disabilities and other disabilities.
• Experience advising or counseling students with learning disabilities or cognitive or physical disabilities.
• Strong organizational skills and excellent interpersonal skills, ability to convey information clearly (both written and verbal), problem solve, and respond appropriately to student, staff, and other faculty needs.
• Coursework in computer literacy, educational technology, and/or training from the California Community College High Tech Center Training Unit.
• Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum for adults with learning disabilities.
• Experience in development and implementation of Student Educational Contracts.

• Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in‑class or online/distance education activities, evaluation of students’ work, and consultation with students outside of class.
• Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college.
• Submit, when due, attendance rosters and grade reports.
• Follow course outlines as filed in the instruction offices.
• Maintain office hours each week, 0.5 hours per section.
• Observe, support and enforce the regulations, policies and programs of the District and college.
• Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course, as per instructions in the Faculty Handbook.
• Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other student services.
• Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in the area of expertise.
