Part‑Time Psychology Instructor (Pool)

Part‑time Associate Faculty (Pool). Teaching assignments may include lecture‑discussion courses during day, evening or Saturday and/or online/distance education formats across Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters.

This position is a part‑time teaching role as an Associate Instructor. It requires teaching lecture‑discussion courses in the classroom or online/distance formats during various semesters.

Work location:

West Valley College, Saratoga, CA.

Salary is based on a percentage of full‑time load, up to 67% of a full‑time load. The initial hiring range is $38,464–$55,582 per semester, prorated based on academic achievement, teaching and related experience.

• Master’s in psychology; or
• Bachelor’s in psychology AND Master’s in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience or social work; or
• A valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Psychology; or
• The equivalent of the above.
• Understanding of, and sensitivity to, diverse backgrounds, including socio‑economic, ethnic, religious, cultural, disability and sexual orientation aspects of community college students.

• Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in‑class or online/distance activities, evaluation of students, consultation and maintenance of subject currency.
• Maintain accurate class and other records as required by the college.
• Submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due.
• Follow course outlines as filed in the instruction offices.
• Maintain weekly office hours (0.5 hours per week per section).
• Observe, support and enforce district and college regulations, policies and programs.
• Provide each student with a written syllabus at the beginning of the course per Faculty Handbook.
• Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other services.
• Assist students by providing advice on successful achievement in the area of expertise.
• Work cooperatively within the college community.
• Foster an environment protecting academic freedom within the college community.
• Create a positive working environment free from harassment, prejudice and bias.
• Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual.
