Position Summary

The Facilities Department is seeking a skilled HVAC Mechanic to perform maintenance, installation, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and controls. The role includes monitoring building management systems (BMS) and assisting with larger, complex repair projects.

Location & Assignment

Position will be located at West Valley College, Saratoga, CA, and Mission College, Santa Clara, CA. The role is full‑time (37.5 hours/week) for 12 months, anticipated start date October 2026. Work may include evening or weekend hours as needed.

Salary and Benefits
  • Salary range: $8,846.33–$9,668.25 monthly (WVMCEA Salary Schedule, Range 67, Steps A‑C).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of responsible skilled HVAC maintenance experience.
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Valid California driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the diverse student, faculty, and staff population.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong technical skills in diagnosing system failures and troubleshooting complex HVAC issues.
  • Hands‑on experience with split, packaged, VAV, VRF, central chilled water, and fan‑coil units.
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting technical documentation and construction plans.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Tools, materials, and terminology for heating, ventilation, and refrigeration systems.
  • Safe work practices and applicable health and safety codes.
  • Automated energy management systems and software.
  • High and low voltage electrical systems.
  • Basic math skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Program, monitor, and troubleshoot building thermostats using BMS software.
  • Calibrate, clean, and repair electrical, pneumatic, and control systems.
  • Install and repair mechanical refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair low pressure boiler, gas, and electric heating systems; perform minor emergency generator repairs.
  • Coordinate large or special installations with contractors.
  • Instruct users on equipment operation.
  • Maintain maintenance records and reports.
  • Research, order, or purchase parts; recommend new equipment.
  • Participate in construction meetings and meet inspectors for code compliance.
  • Provide excellent customer service to colleagues, employees, and the public.
  • Promote diversity, integrity, trust, and respect within the team.
  • Adapt to changing priorities with flexibility and communication.
Working Conditions

Typical physical demands include standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and using tools and equipment on ladders. Work may involve outdoor access and handling of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations.
