Communications Officer – Saskatoon Position Overview
Under the direction of the Senior Program Coordinator of the Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI), the Communications Officer creates engaging visual and written materials to support GDI’s brand and communications. They combine strong graphic design and writing skills to produce publications, digital assets, and marketing materials.
ResponsibilitiesCreate and design advertisements, newsletters, reports, brochures, and digital assets; write and edit content for publications, promotional materials, and online platforms; maintain brand templates, visual standards, and style guidelines; capture and edit photos and video content; manage website, social media, and newsletter content; support marketing campaigns, student recruitment, and community engagement initiatives; assist with events, research materials, and general communications tasks;
other duties as assigned by the Sr. Program Coordinator.
A bachelor’s degree in communications, design, marketing, or a related field is required. Minimum 2 years of experience producing graphic design for print and digital platforms (e.g., brochures, reports, social media). Demonstrated experience in professional writing. Understanding of Métis culture. Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy. Ability to manage multiple projects and work with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in using communications software and tools (such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, Canva, Word Press, social media platforms and content management systems). Basic knowledge of content strategy and marketing principles. Willingness to travel as required for events and engagement activities. Experience with photography, videography, and basic editing tools is an asset.
