Position SummaryThe Family Preservation Manager will lead and supervise the Gaw Tlagée Old Massett team of Family Preservation Workers by providing hands‑on guidance and fostering culturally grounded and holistic supports for Haida children and families. The Manager will oversee day‑to‑day operations, provide coaching and mentorship, coordinate programming, conduct case reviews, and ensure compliance with HCF standards and reporting requirements.
Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Supervision
Provide day‑to‑day program management, ensuring smooth operations and alignment with HCF goals.
Provide guidance, coaching, and performance management to the Gaw Tlagée team of Family Preservation Workers.
Promote Haida values and trauma-informed, strengths‑based practice across the team.
Facilitate regular team meetings and case reviews.
Support staff in developing integrated community member service plans and maintain high standards of practice.
Address performance issues and foster professional growth through mentorship.
Human Resources
Lead recruitment for Gaw Tlagée Family Preservation Workers, including developing job postings, screening applicants, interviewing, and making hiring recommendations to the Director of Community Connections.
Oversee onboarding and orientation for new team members.
Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
Develop and implement professional development plans for staff.
Manage employee relations issues in accordance with Agency policies and procedures.
Program Coordination
Oversee the planning and delivery of family preservation programs, including parenting classes, cultural activities, life skills training, and Family Group Decision Making.
Support community engagement and inter‑agency coordination to enhance family wellness.
Ensure services are strength‑based and aligned with Haida values and wraparound principles.
Monitor program effectiveness and implement improvements as needed.
Administrative & Reporting
Maintain accurate program and client records, ensuring confidentiality.
Prepare monthly and annual reports for the Director of Community Connections.
Assist with budgeting and resource allocation for family preservation programs.

Qualifications and ExperienceKnowledge of Haida culture, history and the implications of colonization for Indigenous children, youth, families and communities.
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Education, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Minimum 3 years of experience in child and family services, with experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
Knowledge of Haida Nation, Canadian and Provincial Government agreements and relevant acts, Child, Family and Community Services Act, and social and historical issues impacting Haida People in all communities on and off reserve.

Working knowledge of related theories, principles and techniques in family preservation/reunification services.
Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team, including experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing staff.
Working knowledge of federal, provincial and local organizations mandated to provide health, counselling and child and family services, along with experience in program funding and eligibility requirements.
