Community Engagement Specialist-Part Time Contract

BGC East Scarborough is seeking a dynamic and community-minded Community Engagement Specialist to join our team. This part-time position plays a key role in strengthening relationships with residents, volunteers, community partners, and older adults across East Scarborough. The successful candidate will lead volunteer engagement initiatives, coordinate community outreach activities, facilitate programming for older adults, and foster meaningful partnerships that enhance the organization's impact.

The Community Engagement Specialist is a relationship builder who is passionate about community development, volunteerism, and creating inclusive opportunities for individuals to connect, contribute, and thrive.

Senior Manager, Strategic Partnerships, Stewardship Development & EDI

Key Duties and Responsibilities of this position include
  • Recruit and welcome new participants through community outreach and relationship-building.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate engaging, inclusive, and culturally responsive programs for older adults.
  • Ensure programs are delivered in accordance with organizational policies, health and safety standards, and program objectives.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, local businesses, and other stakeholders to increase awareness of BGC East Scarborough programs and services.
  • Represent BGC East Scarborough at community events, networking opportunities, and local engagement initiatives.

  • Develop and implement strategies to attract, engage, and retain volunteers in support of agency programs and services.
  • Coordinate the full volunteer lifecycle, including recruitment, screening, onboarding, orientation, scheduling, recognition, and ongoing engagement.
  • Match volunteers with meaningful opportunities based on organizational priorities, individual skills, and interests.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, statistics, and documentation using Salesforce and other organizational systems.
  • Assist with volunteer appreciation initiatives and recognition events.
  • Maintain accurate program, volunteer, and partnership data, including statistical reporting and outcome tracking using Salesforce and other agency systems.
  • Prepare reports and contribute to program evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Diploma or degree in Community Development, Social Services, Recreation, Volunteer Management, Gerontology, or a related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in community engagement, volunteer management, program coordination, or a related community-based role.
  • Experience facilitating programs for older adults or diverse community populations is considered an asset.
  • Experience coordinating volunteers and/or student placements is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong relationship-building and community engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and collaborate with diverse community stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience using Salesforce or other client relationship management databases.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and report program and participation data.
