Mining Geologist (6 Month Term)

Reports to the Principal Resource Geologist

Orano Canada is a leading producer of uranium in Canada, working to power the future with clean energy! Our McClean Lake mill is the most technologically-advanced mill in the world for the processing of high-grade uranium ore without dilution. Our aim is to better define known deposits and discover new ones that will make it possible to supply our McClean Lake Mill for years to come.

Responsibilities include:

Work on designated Orano mining projects as directed, based on operational requirements

Provide logistical and technical support for exploration/development programs as directed. These duties include, but are not limited to:

Collecting and interpreting field data primarily related to the logging of drill core

Entering data in project database ensuring accuracy, completeness, and thoroughness

Assisting with daily core handling functions (measuring, sampling, photography, moving full core boxes, etc.)

Assisting or completing down hole probing data acquisition

Providing, as required, written / oral presentation of results: maps, sections, tables, etc.

Supervision of geo-technicians

May be required to act as the designate for the Project Geologist or Principal Resource Geologist during his/her absence

Must be fully aware of one’s role and responsibilities as defined in the Orano Integrated Management System (IMS), as a Geologist and as a possible Contract Administrator, and enforce them with employees and contractors

Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

University degree in geology (B.Sc., M.Sc.)

4+years' of experience in exploration

Professional Geoscientist designation or eligible for registration as P. Geo in Saskatchewan is considered an asset

Solid background in geology and structural geology

Experience in uranium exploration is an asset

Good computer skills are essential; familiarity with Leapfrog, ac Quire, Vulcan, ArcGIS and Microsoft Office are an asset

Demonstrated understanding of the geology of prospects and deposits, with a discovery-oriented mindset and motivated to advance exploration opportunities

Ability to interpret and clearly summarize large amounts of data

Must be fit (physically and mentally) to work in remote locations with challenging terrain

Valid Class 5 driver's license

Experienced in the use of snowmobiles, ATV’s or equivalent and four wheel drive trucks is an asset

Good verbal and written communication skills, sharing information with other mining team members

Ability to make thoughtful, well informed decisions

Developed interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to challenging and isolated work environments

Schedule:

McClean Lake; fly in/fly out remote work site

14 day in/ 14 day out rotating schedule

Normally an 11 hour work day, although some activity outside of normal working hours may be required

Occasional work from the Saskatoon Corporate Office may be required
