Required Travel: Periodic travel to Flow Labs laboratories and collaborating institutions
Compensation: Annual contract compensation: CAD $160,000-$200,000, commensurate with qualifications, experience and agreed scope of services.
Flow Labs operates Canada's largest male fertility diagnostics network. The company maintains ISO 15189 Plus accredited operations, including two licensed laboratories, nine specimen collection centres, telehealth-enabled services, and established referral relationships with fertility clinics and physicians across Canada.
In collaboration with The Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids), Flow Labs is establishing a clinical genetics program focused on male infertility and reproductive genetics. Flow Labs is also an active research organization with collaborations involving Sick Kids, the University of Toronto and Sinai Health.
Flow Labs is seeking a Laboratory Geneticist to provide scientific and clinical expertise in molecular genetics and genomics and to play a key role in the development and implementation of this program. The position will have a primary focus on constitutional (germline) genetics related to male infertility and reproductive health.
Responsibilities andDuties Include:
- Review, interpretation and reporting of molecular genetic and genomic test results.
- Variant interpretation and classification in accordance with applicable professional standards and guidelines.
- Laboratory genetic case review and consultation, including liaison with referring clinicians regarding test selection, interpretation and clinical significance of results.
- Scientific and technical oversight of molecular genetics laboratory activities.
- Participation in the development, validation, verification and implementation of new genetic and genomic tests.
- Development, review and maintenance of laboratory standard operating procedures.
- Participation in the laboratory quality management system, including quality assurance and compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation and professional requirements.
- Maintenance of current knowledge through medical and scientific literature review and continuing professional education.
- Participation in Flow Labs’ research and development activities, including collaborative research with Sick Kids and other academic partners.
- PhD in genetics, molecular genetics, genomics, molecular biology or a related field, or equivalent doctoral qualification demonstrating expertise in clinical molecular genetics.
- Active Member of the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG), with certification in Laboratory Genetics and Genomic Diagnostics, or eligibility for such certification.
- ABMGG certification or Active Candidacy in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) may be considered as an equivalent qualification where the candidate’s training and credentials satisfy applicable Ontario regulatory requirements.
- Appropriate postgraduate training and experience in clinical laboratory genetics.
- Experience in constitutional (germline) genetics, molecular genetic testing, variant interpretation and clinical laboratory reporting.
- Experience with advanced genetic laboratory applications, including next-generation sequencing and genomic data analysis.
- Experience in test development, validation, verification and implementation.
- Experience with laboratory quality management, proficiency testing/external quality assessment and applicable accreditation requirements.
- Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
