Utilityperson V; Temporary

Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG), a subsidiary of Tri Summit Utilities Inc., owns and operates natural gas processing, transmission and distribution systems in British Columbia’s lower Peace, west central, and north coast regions. PNG’s western transmission system extends from the Enbridge gas transmission system north of Prince George and along the Highway 16 corridor to Terrace and then onto the port communities of Kitimat and Prince Rupert, providing gas transportation and service to twelve communities and a number of industrial facilities.

In the Province’s northeast, Pacific Northern Gas (N.E.) Ltd., a subsidiary of PNG, provides gas processing, transmission and distribution service in the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and Tumbler Ridge areas.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Construction and Maintenance department, we have an opening for 2 qualified Utility person V to join our team in Terrace, BC for approximately 6 months.

• $38.92 an hour as per collective agreement

• Work as a Crew Member engaged in construction, operations and maintenance of natural gas transmission and distribution systems by performing unskilled work as assigned with appropriate training, such as digging with a shovel, traffic control, back filling, painting, etc.
• Train in all phases of construction by performing under the direction of others the necessary skills of the Construction Department.
• Perform work required to reinstate work locations to their original condition, such as restoration of lawns and gardens, replacement of concrete walks, temporary repairs of paved areas, reconstruction of fences, walks, brush and weed abatement, etc.
• Deliver or pick up selected materials and spoil at work sites.
• Operate jack hammers, rock drills, water pumps, tampers, vibrating compactors, chain saws and other similar types of equipment as directed by others and assist in maintenance of same.
• Assist others in the operations and maintenance of equipment (hydraulically operated backhoes, trenching machines, trucks, Hiabs and a variety of trailers and related equipment).
• Paint buildings, piping and related appurtenances.
• Repair or replace R/W markers, line markers and other signs.
• Work as welder helper and assist in the assembly of pipe and fittings under the direction of others.
• Uncrate, package and prepare materials for transportation as required.

• Grade 12 or equivalent education.
• Demonstrate safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations.
• Possible a valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License.
• Demonstrate a good mechanical aptitude for operations and construction work.
• Shall be physically fit and shall have good eyesight.
• Must be able to perform hard physical work.
• Ability to work long hours in adverse weather conditions and irregular hours.
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and written.
