Job SummaryBattelle’s National Security Business Unit is currently seeking candidates for a full time, permanent position as a Junior Level
Blast Research Engineer to provide support to government programs focused on Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) efforts in Airfield protection, Installation Resiliency, and Blast (APIRB) in support of the U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer Center. This position is contingent upon contract award and located on‑site at Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, FL
.
Active areas of research include, but are not limited to:
- Blast and Ballistic Protection Systems Evaluation
- Mitigation of Internal Blast Effects
- Protective Concepts and Systems Against Forced Entry
- Protective Systems for Infrastructure and Asset Survivability Against Cased Munitions
- Blast and Ballistic Protection for Guided Munitions
- The Blast Research Engineer will perform RDT&E of moderate complexity by compiling technical specifications, analyzing technical data, determining appropriate analysis methods, identifying problems, and developing and implementing solutions.
- Develop test plans and experimentation protocols, technology assessment studies, and conduct technical projects.
- Apply experience in engineering research and analysis to understanding of explosive blast effects and blast mitigation at full-scale, reduced scale, and through modeling and testing.
- Design experimentation procedures for evaluation of test systems, including instrumentation, and data collection from field testing.
- Analyze and interpret data collected, prepare technical reports, and make presentations to client, both formal and informal.
- BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Structural, Civil, or similar) or equivalent.
- Highly desirable a strong structural Engineering background.
- 0-2 years’ experience related to research and development programs. Understanding explosive blast effects and blast mitigation is preferred. Experience with high-speed cameras, instrumentation, and data analysis techniques is desirable.
- Experience related to explosive blast effects and full-scale and reduced-scale modeling and testing is desirable.
- Proactive, self‑starter who can work independently and in a team environment.
- Positive attitude and eagerness to take on technical challenges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
