Overview

The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Centers make a difference in people’s lives by providing a supportive environment for men and women to recover from various social and spiritual challenges. The center operates a rehabilitation program that includes basic necessities, counseling, and work therapy.
Production Assistant (Truck Driver) is responsible for driving routes to pick‑up and drop‑off donations at the warehouse, assigned donation boxes, and donor homes.

Responsibilities
  • Secure and operate the vehicle and assigned equipment safely, and promptly report any accidents or incidents involving the truck, personal injury, or property damage to the immediate supervisor.
  • Perform a daily walk‑around inspection of the vehicle, checking air pressure, fluids, and other essential systems, and report any problems immediately.
  • Maintain a clean truck cab and box by removing personal items and tidying the space each day.
  • Plan and follow daily routes based on assigned pick‑ups, making all scheduled calls and ensuring the route is developed per guidelines, including bagging or carding on both sides of each pick‑up location.
  • Represent The Salvation Army courteously, accepting or refusing donations appropriately and following the Manual for Production Assistants. Report any issues to the dispatcher as soon as possible.
  • Maintain professional appearance in compliance with the company dress code.
  • Keep accurate records such as delivery manifests, trip logs, and the Green Sheet, and strictly adhere to communication procedures and code usage.
  • Load and unload assigned trucks, securing goods with blankets, ropes, and other means to prevent excess movement or damage.
  • Assist Thrift Store staff by ensuring items are placed correctly within the store (hampers to processing areas, furniture on the sales floor, removal of trash, etc.).
  • Instruct and supervise the Truck Helper, modeling positive work habits and teaching practical skills.
  • Support the work‑therapy program component by demonstrating professional conduct and work habits to beneficiaries.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or administrator.
Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license for the assigned vehicle with an acceptable DMV record; must pass a driving test.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Proficiency in reading maps and planning and prioritizing daily routes.
  • Experience with an iPad, GPS, texting, and completing truck inspection reports.
  • Excellent communication and customer‑service skills.
  • Medical card required, depending on city or state regulations.
  • Pass the DOT physical requirement; failure to meet this may result in immediate termination.
