Operations Manager
Knife River is a project‑based company that builds strong teams for asphalt paving, grading, milling, and concrete production. The role is seasonal, beginning in April and extending through November, with a possibility of December extension. Candidates enjoy winter off‑days to pursue personal activities while retaining full benefits year‑long.
Duties and Responsibilities- Gravel Base: Communicate crew needs with dispatch and plant; work with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projects; ensure quality gravel/base jobs meet specifications; complete paperwork and deliver samples to the lab.
- Milling: Communicate crew needs with dispatch and plant; collaborate with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors; ensure milling projects meet quality specifications.
- Paving: Coordinate paving crew needs with dispatch; calculate required trucks based on vehicle capacity, traffic, distance, and driver productivity; communicate requirements to plant; work with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors; produce quality asphalt within specifications; visit work sites to monitor progress and utilization; measure slopes, thickness, distances, and boundaries; verify curvature of graded surfaces; supervise paving crews and equipment operators.
- All: Coach employees; convey information to staff; assist new employees; approve and submit daily work hours and job information; maintain safety; perform additional duties as assigned.
- Effective verbal, listening, and written communication; ability to work under high stress.
- Self‑motivated, team‑player with strong interpersonal skills and courteous, respectful customer relations.
- Between 2 and 4 years of experience post‑high school, including military, vocational, or institutional roles.
- Minimum 3 years in a product line with supervisory responsibilities.
- Valid licensure, medical card, and acceptable driving record.
- Paving supervisor experience.
- CDL license.
$2,600 to $3,000 per week
