Key Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process, first article, and final inspections on machined components and assemblies
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements
  • Inspect tight-tolerance and critical features on precision machined components
  • Use inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IMTE) such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and indicators
  • Operate and utilize vision systems for non-contact measurement and feature verification
  • Run and/or support CMM inspections using programs developed in PC-DMIS
  • Verify failed or out-of-tolerance CMM features by:
    • Re-measuring using alternate methods (manual tools, vision systems, or re-alignment)
    • Identifying potential programming, alignment, or fixturing issues
  • Use molding/replication putty (e.g., silicone or comparable compounds) to:
    • Capture internal or inaccessible features
    • Enable indirect measurement of complex geometries
    • Validate dimensions that cannot be directly probed or visually inspected
  • Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming material in accordance with MRB procedures
  • Complete inspection reports and documentation accurately (FAI, in-process, final inspection records)
  • Verify traceability, material certifications, and documentation compliance
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to measurement discrepancies
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of inspection areas and equipment
  • Ensure proper handling and protection of precision components
  • Support internal and external audits (ISO 9001 / AS9100 / customer audits)
  • Communicate inspection results and discrepancies clearly to production, engineering, and quality teams

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred
  • 3–5 years of inspection experience in precision machining, aerospace, or manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments (IMTE)
  • Experience with vision inspection systems (preferred)
  • Experience verifying CMM results and troubleshooting measurement discrepancies (preferred)
  • Experience using replication/molding techniques for inspection (preferred)
  • Familiarity with AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems preferred
  • Experience with CMM operation (preferred)

Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to evaluate difficult-to-access features using indirect methods

  • Ability to validate and challenge automated inspection results (CMM/vision systems)
