.

Lake Superior Academy located in Sault Ste Marie is a tuition free public school academy serving children in grades K-5th. Our vision is to help each student develop a happy heart, an eagerness to learn and a strong foundation for success. We employ instructional methods that foster creativity, exploration, and strong problem-solving skills while also ensuring accountability for student progress.

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Head of School to join our team. The Assistant Head of School will support the Head of School in the administration of the school’s academic programs and student services, ensuring that the educational environment aligns with the school’s mission and values. This role requires strong leadership skills, effective communication, and a commitment to fostering a positive school culture, supporting staff, and enhancing student achievement.

The ideal candidate will have a desire to grow into a Head of School position and demonstrate the leadership potential necessary to assume that role in the future.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Principal in planning, coordinating, and implementing school programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with teachers to review academic programs and instructional practices to enhance student learning and academic performance.
  • Facilitate staff development initiatives to provide ongoing training and support for instructional staff.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, students, and community members to foster school-wide support and engagement.
  • Assist in the evaluation of academic progress and student outcomes, implementing interventions as necessary.
  • Oversee student behavior management and discipline, ensuring a positive and respectful school environment.
  • Help develop and implement safety protocols and emergency plans to ensure a secure learning environment.
  • Monitor and manage student attendance and support efforts to improve student retention and enrollment.
  • Analyze student data to identify trends, inform instruction, and develop school improvement plans.
  • Oversee extracurricular activities, ensuring that they are aligned with school goals and provide students with enriching experiences.
  • Assist with office operations including maintaining documents and procedures.
  • Work independently and with others to fulfill school goals and objectives.
  • Effectively communicate with students, staff, and parents.
Cognitive Demands

Physical Demands
  • Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Stand and walk frequently
  • Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
  • Withstand a moderate noise level
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
  • Must hold a valid state administrator or principal certification or willingness to pursue certification.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of teaching experience, with experience in leadership or an administrative role preferred.
  • Background in Montessori education
  • Strong understanding of instructional practices, curriculum development, and educational assessment.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate staff and students to achieve academic excellence.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable school environment.
