Location: Sault Ste. Marie

POSITION SUMMARY:

The IT Network Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and support of network resources and data centers across the Sault Tribe to support daily operations. The position monitors network performance and security to proactively identify, isolate, troubleshoot, and resolve network issues, while supporting the reliability, availability, security, and continued improvement of the Tribe’s network infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage and maintain network infrastructure, including servers, switches, routers, firewalls, UPS systems, internet connectivity, and data centers across a geographically dispersed organization.
  • Monitor network performance and security to ensure 24/7/365 availability, proactively identify issues, and troubleshoot or resolve connectivity and performance problems.
  • Perform hardware and software maintenance and recommend network equipment upgrades, replacements, sizing, and configurations.
  • Design, implement, and maintain VLANs, routing, switching, and other network infrastructure to support security, performance, and organizational requirements.
  • Manage network security, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, access controls, and monitoring for suspicious activity and potential threats.
  • Administer Active Directory and support authentication, authorization, access control, enterprise applications, and servers across multiple locations.
  • Manage network monitoring and management tools and maintain accurate WAN/LAN, data center diagrams, configurations, and technical documentation.
  • Support cloud and hybrid-cloud initiatives, including cloud networking, servers, storage, security, integrations, and overall network evolution.
  • Coordinate with IT teams, Network Technicians, vendors, and other stakeholders on network projects, change management, disaster recovery, troubleshooting, and ongoing support.
  • Work with the IT Network Manager to develop network strategies, project plans, budgets, and initiatives while providing regular updates on network performance, security, and future needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position heavy with lifting of 100 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of color vision and typing; frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, use of hearing, driving, and bending; occasional pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, manual handling, use of smell, near/midrange/far vision, and field of vision. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather, wet/humidity, noise, and air quality.

Potential hazards include constant computer use and occasional exposure to electric shock, high exposed places, chemicals, and equipment.

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems Management, Computer Science or similar degree required or five years of experience in network administration may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver’s license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must undergo a criminal background investigation conducted under the rules of the National Indian Gaming Commission. Must comply with the Sault Tribe’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy which may include random drug tests.
