Position: Can Line Operator

Essential Job Functions
  • Assist with changeovers, stage coils on all lines, and use a HOIST forklift to keep lines stocked with coils.
  • Provide break coverage on all DRD lines as needed.
  • Perform in‑process tests, including contamination tests; enamel rating; compound film weights; copper sulfate test; water test; stripe weights; enamel slitter and scroll registration; axial and panel tests.
  • Check and record coil physical dimensions (length, squareness, etc.).
  • Inspect water test and tester rejects to maintain quality standards.
  • Verify tester functionality.
  • Visually inspect operations at prescribed frequencies.
  • Remove defective production from lines and issue work sheets to conform to company standards.
  • Accurately record all tests, inspections and related data, including computer data input.
  • Initiate H.F.I.s, identify discrepant material, and maintain a record.
  • Collaborate with mechanics, operating personnel, and supervision to ensure a quality product.
  • Perform related work assignments as required.
  • Maintain work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Execute duties with minimal supervision and attend weekly safety meetings and other meetings as instructed.
Job Requirements
  • Read and comprehend operating instructions, manuals, specifications, and other written material.
  • Use inspection gauges and computer data entry; possess knowledge of tinplate and coating materials.
  • Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; communicate effectively with supervision and line personnel.
  • Perform basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Solve practical problems and interpret multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Will work shifts and overtime as required.
  • Expect to be exposed to a loud environment, moving mechanical parts/machinery, chemicals, and occasionally fumes or airborne particles.
  • Follow the Code of Conduct for Job Performance; report unusual events or emergencies to the supervisor immediately; consult on company policies and procedures; perform safety duties; keep area clean.
  • High School Diploma or GED; must be a qualified journeyman‑level inspector or have successfully completed the Inspector Trainee program.
