Assistant Produce Department Manager

Produce Department Manager. Positions that report to you include Produce Clerks. Primary duties and responsibilities include providing prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, coordinating and troubleshooting food operation, reviewing the status and appearance of product for freshness, monitoring refrigeration temperatures, setting and resetting sales areas, staying current in the produce related issues, pricing product, handling and satisfying customer and vendor issues, assisting with inventory, unloading product, checking product in, verifying accuracy of delivery, training new employees, understanding and practicing proper sanitation procedures, adhering to company policies and individual store guidelines, and reporting to work when scheduled and on time.
Secondary duties and responsibilities include assuming management duties in absence of Department Manager, ordering product, assisting with all aspects of the fruit and holiday basket program, stocking aisles, evaluating product amount, breaking down pallets, re-stacking cooler at days end, transporting product to the aisle, assisting in other areas of store as needed, and performing other job related duties and special projects as required.
Supervisory responsibilities include instructing, assigning, reviewing and planning work of others, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, and allocating personnel. Knowledge, skills, abilities and worker characteristics include the ability to solve practical problems, interpret instructions, do arithmetic calculations, file, post, and mail materials, copy data from one record to another, interview to obtain basic information, guide people and provide basic direction. Education and experience include high school or equivalent experience with food safety training courses encouraged, and over one year of similar or related experience.
Physical requirements include the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision. Must be able to perform the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working conditions include exposure to a cool environment and dampness, possible equipment movement hazards from a pallet jack, electrical shock, and exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents. This is a fast paced work environment. Equipment used to perform job includes knives, wrapping machine, pallet jacks, garbage disposal, fork lift, trash compactor, cardboard compactor, juice machine, computer, calculator, and C.A.R.S. system.
Confidentiality includes access to confidential information including pricing and sales. Contacts include daily contact with customers, suppliers/vendors, and the general public, and occasional contact with federal/state governmental or regulatory agencies for inspections. The anticipated hourly starting wage for this position is $18.00 to $22.50 depending on experience.
