Senior Accountant

Our client, a well-established upstream oil & gas company with significant U.S. operations, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Accounting & Finance team. This role focuses on technical accounting, financial reporting, SOX compliance, and strategic accounting initiatives
. It offers excellent visibility across the organization and the opportunity to work on complex accounting matters while partnering with leadership and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities
  • Research and apply IFRS guidance to complex accounting transactions.
  • Prepare technical accounting memorandums, position papers, and supporting analyses.
  • Support accounting for acquisitions, divestitures, asset retirement obligations (ARO), impairments, leases, revenue recognition, and derivatives/hedge accounting.
  • Assist with external financial reporting and annual reporting requirements.
  • Support SOX compliance, internal controls, documentation, testing, and process improvements.
  • Analyze financial results, account balances, and key reporting metrics, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, auditors, consultants, and global finance teams.
  • Participate in acquisitions, integrations, special projects, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend enhancements to accounting processes, reporting tools, and system functionality.
  • Mentor junior accounting staff and provide technical guidance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA or active pursuit of CPA certification required.
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with a Big Four public accounting firm.
  • Experience in technical accounting, financial reporting, audit, SOX, or internal controls.
  • Upstream oil & gas experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of IFRS required.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with Quorum or a similar ERP system is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
