Savannah State University established in 1890, is the first public historically black college or university in the state of Georgia and the first institution of higher learning in the city of Savannah. The university's students select majors from five colleges:
Business Administration, Education, Engineering and Computing, Media, Arts, and Communication, Science and Humanities.

Job Summary

This position performs grant administration in support of the sponsored programs within the Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences. It requires excellent communication skills, a thorough knowledge of policies in higher education, a thorough knowledge of grants administration guidelines, office management proficiency, and working knowledge of budgets. This is a grant funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon availability of funding.

NOTE:

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not offer sponsorship for employment visas.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate grant funded activities
  • Maintain grant program budgets and databases
  • Supports PI in reporting to external funding agencies
  • Provide administrative support to grant-supported faculty, staff, and students
  • Coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects that are funded by grants
  • Develop and maintain master files on grants and paperwork connected to programs funded by grants
  • Complete all documents and forms required by grants in conjunction with Principle Investigator (PI)
  • Prepare contract agreements, travel, honoraria, invoice payments, cash advances, requisitions, and P-card requests for research faculty, students, and vendors
  • Provide grant support utilizing computer software
  • Create and update internship applications, acceptance letters, outreach flyers, forms, and program books for various grant programs and creates/maintains grant related web pages
  • Manage grant budgets and expenditures while adhering to grantor (especially federal) guidelines
  • Maintain a calendar of critical due dates for interim and final reports
  • Utilize interpersonal skills in working effectively with the chair, faculty and staff and in greeting the public
  • Support research facility/vessel/vehicle operations via work request submission, calendar maintenance, and scheduling of student workers
  • May be required to perform job related duties other than those specifically delineated in this position
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and relevant work experience in higher education, grants, program coordination, accounting, or related field, OR 5 years of experience in higher education, grants, program coordination, business management, or accounting.
  • Proven organizational and project management skills, including the ability to effectively manage competing priorities, consistently meet deadlines, and be meticulous with details.
  • A background check and valid driver's license is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with university processes, systems, and offices related to and/or involved in sponsored projects.
  • Knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Familiarity with the software Georgia First Peoplesoft Financials, BANNER, and PAWS.
Proposed Salary

The proposed annual salary is $48,000.

  • Knowledge or ability to learn necessary software including:
    Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Adobe Acrobat, Word Press or similar website content management, Georgia First, People Soft Financials, BANNER, and PAWS.
  • Skills in written and oral communication.
  • Ability to interpret financial data and prepare budgets and financial grant reports.
  • Ability to be discreet with personal information that may be needed for some grants such as employee salaries or upcoming projects.
