Student Assistant
The Student Assistant will support the Library as an Operations Assistant on the Armstrong Campus beginning Fall 2026. The Student Assistant provides support to the Library General Operations through customer service, basic technology troubleshooting, entry-level research assistance, and library resources. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing general information about library facilities and services
- Directing patrons to appropriate staff for specialized assistance
- Answering phone calls courteously, transferring, handling, or recording messages as needed
- Managing circulation tasks, including charging/discharging books, equipment, and reserve items
- Arranging returned items in call number order and shelves circulating books
- Assisting patrons with computers, photocopiers, and scanning
- Maintaining paper and toner in printers; sensitizing books for circulation
- Emptying book drops regularly and organizing materials for shelving
- Shelf-reading and straightening books in assigned areas
- Processing GIL Express and Interlibrary Loan materials
- Updating patron records and assisting with opening and closing the library
Shift specifics include up to 15 hours per week, flexible with schedule of availability, must be flexible and available to work/cover shifts as needed, including weekends, and must be available for at least one weekly opening shift (8AM), at least one weekend shift, and willing to cover additional shifts when necessary.
Required qualifications include being enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.
Proposed salary is $10.00 per hour. This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
