Job Description
We are seeking a Roadway Construction Inspector to join our Construction Management and Construction Inspection practice team in Statesboro, GA. The successful candidate will perform on-site construction inspections of various transportation-related construction projects, including bridge and highway projects. Project locations may be anywhere within the Statesboro, GA/Savannah, GA area. Come join us!
This is an advanced journey to advanced level inspector position technical work supporting engineers in functional areas of roadway and structure construction acceptance inspection and materials sampling and testing verification. Employee supports engineers and lead inspectors in the management of construction activities on large complex construction projects. Work usually involves a significant amount of decision making and use of judgment and may include providing work directions to others.
CoreResponsibilities
- Conduct independent standardized or moderately complex inspections of roadway and structural construction to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
- Inspect and test materials such as soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete for quality and proper mix.
- Evaluate pavement for correct spreading, rolling, depth, alignment, and compaction.
- Inspect roadways and structures for conformance to approved plans and specifications.
- Monitor structural components and operations, including foundation excavation, placement of culverts, piling, reinforcing steel, structural steel, concrete, and backfill.
- Monitor the installation and maintenance of traffic control and erosion control devices.
- Perform complex calculations and field measurements for contract documentation and pay item verification.
- Maintain accurate and complete project documentation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED with 7+ years of transportation or construction inspection experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Strong working knowledge of roadway construction practices, materials, and inspection procedures
Thorough knowledge of specifications and standards, acceptable construction practices, materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction and engineering
Ability to read and comprehend construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, inspection procedures, and all other documents associated with the project
Thorough knowledge of mathematical functions, including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric calculations related to highway/transportation engineering
Preferred Certifications (not required)- GDOT WECS
- GDOT Field Concrete Technician or ACI Certification
