Job Summary
THE News at Daybreak is the dominant #1 morning newscast in the Coastal Empire and Low country. WTOC is looking for an energetic and engaged reporter to join this team and prepare our viewers for the day ahead. This role is primarily based in the field, works with a dedicated morning photographer, and requires a strong sense of the news cycle. The morning reporter needs to be forward‑thinking on how live shots and stories will prepare viewers before they leave the house.
Duties/Responsibilities- Be live in THE News at Daybreak (4:30 a.m.–7 a.m.) every weekday.
- Do live hits for THE News NOW at 7 a.m. every weekday.
- Develop and pitch engaging, dynamic stories and live shots for each morning.
- After each newscast, work ahead to shoot, write, and edit scripts and video for the following morning.
- Post to WTOC social media platforms with information from morning newscast live shots.
- Leave behind a look‑live story each day based on your morning live shots.
- Post your daily story to the website before 5 a.m. each day with relevant information for viewers.
- College degree in journalism or communications preferred.
- Two years of experience in a newsroom.
- Strong on‑camera presence and energy.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and adjust to breaking news.
- Good grasp of time management.
- Understanding of digital and social platforms.
- Clean driving record.
