Overview
Savannah Technical College seeks a full-time Production Training Instructor to teach Film Production courses in coordination with the Savannah Film Academy. The Savannah Film Academy (SFA) is a collaborative effort of the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia, which seeks to address the workforce needs of the growing Film and TV Production Industry. This program will prepare workers for entry-level positions on the sets of Film and TV productions and help integrate qualified students into the film production workforce.
Savannah Film Academy courses provide specific course outline/structure, materials, training, and mentoring. The classes will be facilitated with a package of professional-level equipment and taught in an appropriate classroom and demonstration space.
- Preparing lesson plans for classroom instruction, developing program syllabi, goals and objectives; evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives; requesting and maintaining supplies and equipment;
- Maintaining program certification requirements, as appropriate; preparing and maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports; maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences;
- Coordinate and perform actual work on lab sites.
- Recruitment and retention of students.
- Other duties include reporting inventory, school-wide planning, providing registration assistance, working on projects with other instructional areas and perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Instruction.
- Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area.
- Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students’ instructional program and other issues impacting the progress of students.
- Duties include a flexible schedule of instruction, student advisement and registration. Must be willing to work split teaching shifts that might require split teaching days.
College Degree in related field.
Preferred Qualifications- In-depth knowledge and experience in a variety of film/television production crafts, to include locations and stage, electric/lighting procedures, grip/rigging, sound, art/set decoration and dressing, hair/make-up/wardrobe concepts and procedures, location management, camera operation, on-set and office Production Assistant duties, general set etiquette and procedures.
- More than 5 years’ work experience on professional Feature Film/TV sets.
- Demonstrated teaching/instructional delivery experience preferred.
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must possess strong organizational skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records.
Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) – four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts light to medium weight objects up to 50
LBS. The work is performed in campus buildings and outdoors where the employee is occasionally exposed to cold or inclement weather. The exposure to dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, chemicals, and fumes is possible in the laboratory environment. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
