Georgia Southern University seeks a collaborative Assistant Director of Resident Life to support a learning-based community in a residential environment.

Job SummaryThe Assistant Director is responsible for guiding and implementing a learning-based residential environment. Responsibilities include supervision of Master s Degree–level Resident Directors and indirect supervision of graduate and student staff. The role supports student academic success and social development and participates in the creation, execution, and evaluation of a residential program including learning communities and a residential curriculum model. Central duties may include chairing departmental committees, training, development, selection, student leadership, and assessment.
Strong collaboration with University Housing and campus partners across Statesboro, Savannah, and Swainsboro campuses is important.
This position is identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Jeanne Clery Act, with responsibilities for reporting crimes on and around campus and certain non-campus University-owned properties.
Responsibilities- Assist with special projects assigned by the Associate Director or Director of Residence Education or University Housing.
- Staff Supervision/Development – direct supervision of professional Resident Directors, a Graduate Assistant, and indirect supervision of Graduate Resident Directors and student staff; develop evaluative practices for staff development.
- Residence Hall Administration – implement effective management practices for day-to-day hall operations.
- Student Learning & Curriculum Development – establish a learning-focused environment for academic success and personal growth.
- Community Development – collaborate with Resident Directors and student staff to foster educational, cultural, social, and recreational activities.
- Student Conduct – enforce behavioral standards Per Georgia Southern University, the Dean of Students Office, and University Housing.
- Crisis Intervention and Risk Management – respond to group and individual student needs.
- Staff Selection, Training and Development – chair selection and/or training committees; develop and evaluate learning outcomes for staff.
- Respond to departmental needs in the absence of the Associate Director or Director of Residence Education.
Educational Requirements
- Master s Degree
Required Experience
- Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive supervisory experience in a residence hall environment
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Master s Degree in Higher Education Student Services, Counseling, or a related field
Preferred Experience
- Five (5) or more years of progressive supervisory experience in a residence hall environment
- Experience supervising graduate level staff
$55,126 - $70,307
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
