About the Role

Resident Director – Statesboro Campus, Georgia Southern University. Regular full‑time, 12‑month live‑in position. Compensation includes a two‑bedroom furnished apartment and meal plan.

The Resident Director manages day‑to‑day operations of a residence hall(s) to create and manage an effective living‑learning environment for students; coordinates and administers aspects of a residential learning program in one residence hall; and is responsible for establishing an environment conducive to the academic success and personal growth of each student resident. This position is identified by Federal Law (Jeanne Clery Act) as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).

Responsibilities
  • Assists with selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of Graduate Assistants, Resident Advisors and Desk Assistants.
  • Develops duty schedules and maintains payroll records on a regular basis.
  • Attends staff meetings and conducts individual meetings with staff on a regular basis.
  • Monitors actions and activities of building staff to ensure policies and procedures are upheld.
  • Maintains a high level of contact with students; visible throughout the building and maintaining office hours.
  • Assists with training workshops and in‑service programs throughout the year.
  • Investigates and reports incidents.
  • Serves on or provides leadership for Residence Education or University Housing committees.
  • Serves on University or Division‑wide committees.
  • Attends professional development programs and conferences.
  • Supports student success and personal development.
  • Advises and recruits student leaders for building programming efforts.
  • Serves as essential personnel and maintains availability outside normal business hours.
  • Coordinates room change and occupancy processes in collaboration with Administrative Services.
  • Coordinates opening and closing of the residence hall(s).
  • Manages the building’s budget for programming and student leadership activities.
  • Works a rotating on‑call duty schedule and advises staff on emergency protocol.
  • Collaborates with facilities staff to ensure safety, cleanliness, and upkeep.
  • Adjudicates conduct cases using the online student conduct manager software.
  • Trains, supervises, and evaluates undergraduate staff and graduate assistants.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s Degree in higher education, counseling, student services or related field.
  • Experience: One (1) or more years of related work experience in higher education student affairs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Work experience in a residence hall environment.
Salary

$39,837 – $44,000 (exempt position paid monthly).

  • Adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills.
  • Leadership, group dynamics, flexibility, and programming in a residence hall setting.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and emergency response in on‑campus residence halls.
