Job Summary

The Lecturer of Biology will provide high-quality instruction in general biological sciences to undergraduate students. In addition, the lecturer will support the Department, College, and University through service activities, including committee participation, curriculum development, student recruitment and retention, mentoring, and other initiatives that strengthen the institution's academic and professional reputation.

Responsibilities

This is a 10-month, non-tenure-track position. The position requires a strong commitment to academic excellence, teaching effectiveness, and active service to the university and community.

Teaching Load: 24-30 credit hours per year

* Plan, prepare, and teach assigned courses, including syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments.

* Teach lower-level biology courses for majors and non-majors; may also teach upper-level courses aligned with expertise.

* Deliver engaging, interactive, and consistent instruction aligned with curriculum goals and accreditation standards.

* Maintain high standards of teaching effectiveness and engage in reflective self-assessment for continuous improvement.

* Hold regular office hours, advise students, and provide individual academic support.

* Utilize the University's learning management system and instructional technologies effectively.

* Collaborate with departmental faculty on curriculum development and program growth.

* Ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are achieved.

* Participate actively in departmental, college, and university committees and service activities.

* Contribute to community, institutional, and professional service in alignment with the University's mission.

* Engage in professional development and maintain strong instructional skills.

* Communicate professionally and promptly with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.

Required Qualifications

* Master's degree in biology, Biological Sciences, or Biomedical Sciences (required)

* Ph.D. in a relevant field (preferred)

* Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching (preferred)

* Previous research experience (preferred)

Proposed Salary

The proposed salary is $57,500.00 annually.

* Knowledge of general biological sciences.

* Knowledge of specialized areas within biology.

* Knowledge of curriculum design and accreditation requirements in higher education.

* Knowledge of pedagogical best practices, including effective teaching strategies.

* Knowledge of learning management systems (e.g., D2L) and instructional technologies.

* Knowledge of student advising and academic support strategies.

* Knowledge of service expectations in higher education, including committee work, community engagement, and recruitment.

* Skilled in planning, preparing, and delivering engaging lectures, labs, and assessments.

* Skilled in using technology to enhance learning and in adapting teaching methods for all learners.

* Skilled in clear, professional verbal and written communication with students, colleagues, and administrators.

* Skilled in maintaining accurate records, grades, and documentation of student interactions.

* Skilled in working collegially with faculty and contributing to departmental and university service.

* Skilled in designing and supervising undergraduate research projects.

* Ability to foster academic excellence and support student success.

* Ability to grow professionally and remain current in the discipline.

* Ability to engage in service activities that support the institution's mission and community.
